Adani Total Gas Ltd. (ATGL) is a City Gas Distribution (CGD) company building the natural gas infrastructure that delivers Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to millions of customers. As India's energy transition accelerates, ATGL set out to embed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles in its business model as a lever for resilience, competitiveness and stakeholder trust, not as a compliance exercise.

ATGL engaged Oren, an ESG technology and advisory partner, to move from intent to impact: a data-driven, execution-ready sustainability framework that could grow with the company.

The Challenge: From Aspiration to Institutionalisation

ATGL's leadership was committed to sustainability, but operationalising that vision across a large, geographically spread organisation was hard:

Change management: integrating ESG into a fast-growing organisation needed cross-functional collaboration, standardised processes and clear accountability.

The engagement ran in phases, starting with foundational systems and moving into strategic and technical implementation.

Phase 1: Institutionalising ESG Foundations

Process architecture: Oren designed and implemented an ESG data collection framework on Oren Sustainability Hub, defining metrics, methodologies and frequencies, with traceability, audit readiness and alignment to SEBI's BRSR structure.
Internal capacity: targeted workshops and function-specific training upskilled ATGL's teams on ESG disclosure requirements, global rating methodologies and sustainability governance, turning ESG from a central function into an enterprise-wide practice.
Compliance and reporting: Oren guided ATGL through its first Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR), meeting SEBI's requirements in substance and narrative.

Phase 2: Strategic Deepening and Integration

Reporting and ratings: Oren designed ATGL's first Sustainability Report aligned with DJSI and CDP, aligning quantitative KPIs with qualitative storytelling, defining boundary conditions and applying double materiality. Oren managed the full DJSI submission, and ATGL's score improved in the following assessment cycle.
Supply chain sustainability, Project PARIVARTAN: Oren designed and launched ATGL's flagship supply chain programme. It covered supplier identification and segmentation, digital assessments on Oren's platform, ESG maturity scoring and corrective action plans, plus large-scale supplier training, on-site audits and recognition events in Ahmedabad and Faridabad, embedding sustainability across more than 100 critical suppliers.
Decarbonisation roadmap execution: Oren's technical specialists designed and deployed a monthly fugitive-emission monitoring system to quantify and manage unintentional gas leaks, and facilitated large-scale afforestation projects with local municipalities and schools, from feasibility assessment to verification of the carbon offsets generated.
Sustainable finance: Oren introduced ATGL to green financing structures such as Sustainability-Linked Loans (SLLs) and facilitated discussions with financial institutions to align capital strategy with ESG performance targets.
